Orange Shirt Day
There will be no school on The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, September 30, 2026. Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School will be utilizing Tuesday September 29, 2026 to honour the national holiday. Parents, please encourage your student to wear an orange shirt on Tuesday to help bring awareness to the need for truth and reconciliation across Canada. The CBE has an excellent page outlining National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Events around the city that we encourage all JCS families to participate in.
Grades in PowerSchool
Please visit the MyCBE page for support with setting up a PowerSchool account, adding students to your account, and accessing attendance, assessment, and reporting.
Attendance is accurate and updated by teachers and the office each day. If your student is marked absent, it is because they were absent. The PowerSchool web browser is the most effective way to view attendance and grades accurately. Please see the Attendance & Assessment Guide for more information.
Individual assignment grades are currently visible in PowerSchool and final grades will be viewable starting today through October 5. The exact date will be dependent on department timelines for publishing. Parents may use the PowerSchool Mobile App, which is available for Android and iPhone users, to receive push notifications anytime Final Grades or Attendance are updated by teachers or the school.
New Staff Welcome
Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School is excited to welcome Megan Burwash to the main office as our new receptionist and Scott Garen who will be teaching French and Learning Strategies classes.
Additional Complexity Funding
Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School is also excited to receive additional funding from the CBE through the Provincial Government Complexity Funding Initiative to hire a complexity team at the school. This team will consist of one new teacher and one new educational assistant to support students with more complex learning needs. We are hoping to hire these new staff members in October.

Student Parking Passes Now Required
A reminder that student parking passes are now required for students to utilize the student parking lot during school hours. Parents are asked to check the Raven Post | September 4 for more details on how to apply for a parking pass. Vehicles without parking passes in the student lot may be ticketed and/or towed during school hours.
November Diploma Exams
Students requesting a seat in a November Diploma Exam need to connect with Mr. Brown (rabrown@cbe.ab.ca) via email or in the main office by Friday October 2, 2026 before 2:00 pm. November diploma exam dates are found on the Alberta Education 2026-27 Diploma Exam Calendar.
