JCS Travel 2025: Grecian Odyssey Updates
After careful consideration, we have revised how applicants will be selected for the 43 available spots on our Grecian Odyssey Trip. Out of concern that a "first-come, first-served" model will disadvantage parents and students who have barriers to being at the school early to line up, we will be accepting applications at the office (not by e-mail or phone) between June 17 at 8:30am to June 18 at 3:30 pm. After the cutoff date, we will be drawing names at random. Parents of the students who have been selected will be notified via the e-mails they included on their Expression of Interest form and invoiced through PowerSchool. They will then have 24 hours to pay the $500 deposit. If payment is not received within 24 hrs, they will be notified that they have been moved to the waitlist and a new name will be drawn. Parents of students whose names are not drawn will be notified that they have been waitlisted. If positions open, we will draw names from the waitlist.
An information and Expression of Interest Form Package has been posted on the school website that includes the information covered at the June 13 parent meeting.
MyCBE/PowerSchool Portal
MyCBE/PowerSchool viewing of the class Grade is disabled effective Friday, June 14 to allow teachers to enter report card comments and marks. Viewing of Term 4 marks will be enabled on June 27.
Student Schedules
Considerable work has gone into the creation of the 2024-2025 timetables for all students. This process of course selection and program planning began formally in January. Every effort has been made to ensure that student timetables are accurate and personalized based on requests. In 95% of cases, students receive their course requests. With the complex nature of the timetable and in striving to meet student requests, there is little room to make changes to timetables for this coming fall.
Course Change Request Process and Dates
Students can request two possible course changes.
We are able to accommodate the following requests:
- Grade 12 students missing a course required for graduation
- Add or drop a class (filling a spare)
- Missing the prerequisite course to a scheduled course (i.e. did not complete Social Studies 20, but scheduled for Social Studies 30)
- Courses out of sequence e.g. Science 30 first semester, Science 20 second semester
- Students took and passed a prerequisite course at Summer School
- Academic course level change (eg. Math 20-1 to 20-2)
- Balancing timetable (eg. 3 core classes in one semester and 1 in the other)
- Grade 11 and 12 option change requests (based on availability)
We are not able to accommodate the following requests:
- Grade 10 option changes (due to enrollment capacity of courses)
- Specific teacher requests
- Specific classes/spares in certain periods or semesters
- Repeating a passed class to earn a higher mark
Students are able to make course change requests according to the following schedule:
Monday, August 26 11:00 – 3:00 pm Main Hub Grades 11 & 12
Tuesday, August 27 9:00 – 1:00 pm Main Hub All Grades

Craven Cafe
Craven's Cafe is happy to announce some exciting changes for the upcoming school year. Beginning in September, students will be able to pre-order and prepay for hot lunch items during breakfast service. Students will order and pay for their lunch during the breakfast service from 8:15-9:00am, they will receive a copy of their receipt with an order number on it, at lunch, they will bring their receipt to Craven's Express where their lunch will be ready to go. We hope this new service will make lunch service more convenient and efficient and will ensure students get the lunch they want.
Students will be expected to keep track of their receipt, only hard copies of receipts will be accepted at pick up time. We will start the year with a limited pre-order menu while we work out the kinks and increase the offerings as we are able. Regular lunch service will still be available at Craven's with an additional cash till to increase the speed and efficiency of those lines as well.
We hope you are excited about these changes, and we look forward to a great 2024/25 school year.
