June 2024 Class and Final Exam Schedule 

As we prepare for the ending of the second semester classes, please find the attached schedule outlining the instructional calendar for the week of June 10 to 14 and the June final exam schedule. 

Monday, June 10 

  • Regular class and busing schedule 

Tuesday, June 11  

  • ELA 30-1 and 30-2 Part A diploma exams. 
  • Math 10C Final Exam (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM). 
  • No regularly scheduled classes or instruction. Students not writing the ELA diploma exams or the Math 10C exam attend school on a scheduled appointment basis with their teacher.   
  • Express bus services run on regular schedule. 

Wednesday, June 12 

  • Social 30-1 and 30-2 Part A diploma exams 
  • Math 20-1 and 20-2 Final Exam (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) 
  • No regularly scheduled classes or instruction. Students not writing the Social diploma exams or the Math 20-1/20-2 exams attend school on a scheduled appointment basis with their teacher. 
  • Express bus services run on regular schedule. 

Thursday, June 13  

  • Regular class schedule but with no new instruction/assessments. Focus on assessment completion based on a plan with their course teacher. 
  • Express bus services run on regular schedule. 

Friday, June 14 

  • Regular class schedule but with no new instruction/assessments. Focus on assessment completion based on a plan with their course teacher. 
  • Last day of regular classes for the second semester. 
  • Express bus services run on regular schedule. 

Monday, June 17 to Wednesday, June 26 

  • Regular exam schedule, no regular classes scheduled. 
  • Express bus services for am transportation only. 

Yearbooks 

The yearbooks have arrived and are being picked up. If a yearbook has been ordered and not paid for, please pay using your MyCBE account prior to picking up your yearbook.  We have a very small selection of yearbooks available to purchase for those who did not order previously. These yearbooks must be paid for in-person at the school and are available on a first-come first-serve basis. 

Yearbook final pick-up date: 

  • Monday, June 10 between 3:35 PM - 4 PM

Learning Commons 

All overdue books are now being charged to students, please check PowerSchool. 

If overdue books are returned the charges will be reversed so please look around your homes and lockers for missing books. 

All novel studies should now be returned unless they are needed for diplomas. 

Please see Ms. Beauchamp to extend due dates. 

All textbooks need to be returned the day of the exam. 

There will be a library cart outside the third floor learning commons and outside the office during exams for book returns. 

YMCA Tutoring Table Summer Clubs  

Is your student is thinking of taking math in summer school or looking to prepare for next semester? Free math tutoring for High School students & mentorship opportunities available July 2 to August 8. 

Locations include Shawnessy YMCA, Saddletowne YMCA and online over Zoom.

Summer Campus Tours 

YMCA Tutoring Table will be visiting various post-secondary institutions around Calgary to give students an insight into post-secondary life and the programs available. Students will get a chance to tour a post-secondary campus in Calgary, visit various facilities/labs unique to that school, learn about the application process and ask questions. Space is limited to 30 students per trip.

  • August 9  Mount Royal University 
  • August 16  Bow Valley College 

Lunch and bus tickets are included (free).

PowerSchool Portal  

MyCBE/PowerSchool viewing of the class Grade is disabled effective Friday, June 14 to allow teachers to enter report card comments and marks. Viewing of Term 4 marks will be enabled on June 27. 

Craven Cafe 

The last day of food service provided by the café was June 6. Please plan an alternative for food service for the remainder of the school year. 

Annual General Meeting of the JCS Parent Council 

Please accept this as notice of the Annual General Meeting of the JCS Parent Council and the Annual General Meeting of the JCS Parent Society.  These meetings will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 7:00 PM at JCS. 

Elevator Passes 

If students have an elevator pass signed out, please ensure it is returned to the Business Office when they have completed their courses before the end of the semester. 

Europe Trip 2025 

Any students interested in travelling to Greece next spring (Spring Break - 2025) please plan to attend one of the information meetings next week. The information meetings will be during lunch on Tuesday (June 4), Wednesday (June 5), and Thursday (June 6) in Room 3612.

Information from the Student Success Centre 

Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses and scholarships. Students should also review the monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.  

Summer School Information 

Chinook Learning Services is hosting a Virtual Meet & Greet on Thursday, June 13 at 7:00 PM. Register here to attend. There will also be an In-Person Open House at Lord Beaverbrook High School on Thursday, June 20 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM.

Free University of Calgary Summer Program for Both First and Second-Generation Canadians

This program aims to teach students how to become community leaders and mentors in wellbeing and mental health. Each participant will be paired with a mentor, have the opportunity to volunteer with the program in the next school year, and receive a certificate upon completion. Throughout the program, students will develop research skills, prepare for university, engage with career panels, and explore social, physical, and mental health.
