Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses, and scholarships. Students should also review the D2L monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
Semester 2 Course Changes
Since November, The Student Success Centre has been meeting with students who were requesting to make course changes for Semester 2. Moving forward, students will only be able to make requests to change their academic course level (eg. Math 20-1 to Math 20-2). We are not able to accommodate any further requests to change option courses.
The Student Success Centre will be offering Drop-in times for students who wish to request a course change for Semester 2. No appointment is necessary.
Students are able to request the following:
- An academic level change (eg. Math 20-1 to Math 20-2)
- Add a class to a spare (availability permitting)
- Drop a class (if you have enough credits)
You can meet your Student Advisor in the Student Success Centre (1st floor by the Main Office)
- Monday, January 13 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
- Tuesday, January 14 1:00 – 3:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 15 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, January 28 when Semester 2 starts, students will not require an appointment to request a course change as outlined above. It will be Drop-in only.
Are You Ready to Graduate?
On Thursday, December 5 during Raven Time, Grade 12 students completed an ‘Are You Ready to Graduate?’ form. This form must be completed by all Grade 12 students and will be submitted to the Student Success Centre for review. If you have not yet filled out this form, you can pick one up in the Main Office and return it there once completed.
The YMCA Tutoring Table Program is offering a free Math 30-1 and 30-2 Diploma Prep. It will run January 2, 3, and 10, 2025. Registration is now open, and students can either scan the QR code or click the link “enroll here” available on the Announcements page of the Student Success Centre D2L.
Diploma prep courses are offered in person or online for interested Grade 12 students who are writing diploma exams in January. View available courses, locations and costs at www.diplomaprep.com, www.renert.com/diploma-review.com or www.rtdlearning.com.
Calaway Park
Calaway Park is proud to provide employment to a growing number of talented young performers each summer and our process to hire dancers, actors and theatre students for a summer job with us begins in January.
This is a great opportunity for summer employment that aligns with passion and talent in the Arts, and an opportunity to be involved in an artistic endeavor in the summer. We offer work experience credits through Chinook Learning Services, great wages, and free transportation to the park with our Team Member bus system. We understand the importance of school so we continue to refine a doable and flexible rehearsal period that won’t conflict with other extra-curricular activities.
All audition information is updated at www.calawaypark.com in the Employment section under “Auditions” and we are accepting registrations starting January 1 for our February auditions.
For more information please contact Chris Thompson, Entertainment Director at: chris.thompson@calawaypark.com or Mr. Gelfand at regelfand@cbe.ab.ca.
