2025-26 Course Request Overview
It’s time for our Grade 10 and Grade 11 students to start planning for next year! Here is what to expect:
- February 12: Course planning sheets and a list of courses that students can choose from will be handed out to students during Period 2. An e-mail will be sent to parents with additional registration information.
- February 12-20: Students and parents/guardians work together to plan which courses they will register for.
- February 20: During Raven Time (period 2), students will receive additional guidance and enter their course requests into PowerSchool AND they will hand in their planning sheets. PowerSchool course request portal will be closed at 4pm.
- After February 20: Student Advisors will review students’ course requests. As the semester progresses, if students need to change a course level for a requested course, they will be given an opportunity for adjustments closer to the end of the semester.
Cravens Café
Exciting news from the Craven’s Cafe, all training is ahead of schedule and therefore, food service will begin again on February 11. Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase.
Construction Project Pick Up
Any first semester construction students who left their projects in the shop, please ensure that you pick up your projects before February 12.
Valedictorian and Graduation Speaker Applications
If you are interested in auditioning to be a speaker at this year’s Graduation ceremony or Graduation banquet, ‘Graduation Speaker Application Packages’ are now available. Possible roles include:
- Class Valedictorian
- Land Acknowledgement
- Emcees*
- Toast to the Teachers*
- Toast to the Parents/Guardian*
- Class Historian*
*Typically take place at the banquet.
You can get a package from the main office. Please don’t delay on grabbing one, as there is a lengthy process for the applications! The deadline for application submission will be Friday, February 21st, 2025. Application packages can be submitted to back to the main office. Please see Ms. Taylor in the Drama Room (1811) or Ms. Kouperman in the main office if you have any questions.
New Grad Information
Grade 12 students can now view their graduation fees in their MyCBE Account. These fees apply to students intending to participate in the graduation ceremony. The graduation ceremony is when students will walk the stage in a graduation gown to receive their certificate. The fee is $70 and encompasses the following costs:
• Rental of the BMO Centre
• Rental of the graduation gown
• Souvenir cap and tassel
• Portfolio and certificate
• Printing of the program
• 4 tickets per graduating student to attend the ceremony
Parents of students who are over 18 are reminded to ensure that their student has signed the consent forms permitting parents to access their fees and accounts with CBE.
Attention all graduating Grade 12’s! If you would like to have your baby photo in the slideshow that will play at this year’s graduation banquet, please email a photo to jcsbabyphotos@gmail.com. Don’t forget to include the graduate’s first and last name in the email with the photo!
Yearbook Information
Families can now order their yearbooks directly through Jostens for $47.50 until February 2025.
The yearbooks will be available for pick up at the beginning of June for those who have purchased.

YMCA Tutoring Table
JCS is partnered with Calgary United Way’s All In for Youth (AIFY) initiative. JCS administration and the Student Success Centre work with collaboratively with an AIFY Success Coach to support vulnerable students to be successful at school and in the community. One of the programs the AIFY offers JCS students is the YMCA Tutoring Table Program.
- Free tutoring services to JCS students.
- Semester 2 tutoring sessions start week of February 24.
- In-person at JCS or online tutoring opportunities.
- Assist students in math (Math 10 -3, 10-C, 20-1, 20-2, 30-1 and 30-2) courses. Limited science tutoring is available.
- Preference given to students who have financial &/or academic need.
- Student MUST commit to attend the weekly tutoring sessions.

Ieuan Roberts, JCS’ AIFY Success Coach, is at the school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and select Fridays. Contact your student’s Student Advisor for more information about the AIFY Success Coach program.
Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses, and scholarships. Students should also review the D2L monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
