Course Request Changes for the 2026–2027 School Year
From Friday May 22 to Friday May 29, 2026 students will have an opportunity to request changes to their course selections for next school year.
Steps and Important Information
· Complete a paper course change request form available HERE, in the Student Success Centre (SSC), on the SSC D2L Shell, or in the main office.
· A parent or guardian signature is required.
· Requests to adjust academic courses or graduation requirements will be given priority.
· Option course changes may be considered, depending on availability.
· Requests made after May 29 may not be possible due to capacity, availability, and resources.
If you have questions, please connect with your student’s advisor in the Student Success Centre (SSC).
Spirit Week
The final spirit week of the 2025/26 school year is June 1 – 5! Please encourage your student to participate and build some school spirit in their final full week of classes for the year.

Fine Arts Gala
The JCS Fine Arts Gala is on Wednesday June 3 at 6:00pm. This is an evening to celebrate the arts at JCS featuring artists booths, gallery show, improv, instrumental combos, jazz, pop specials and dance. Admission is by donation.
Food Truck Friday
On Friday June 5, 2026 during Periods 2, 3, and 4, teachers will be invited to bring their classes to the student parking lot to purchase food and beverages from YYC Food Trucks and celebrate the upcoming end of the 2025/26 school year at JCS.
This will require the closure of the JCS Student Parking Lot for the entire day. Students will be asked to utilize public transit or to find community parking for the duration of the school day. If your student has a JCS Parking Pass, please remind them that they cannot park in the student parking lot on Friday June 5, 2026.
Night of the Raven Athletic Awards
The Night of the Raven Athletic Awards is Thursday, June 4 at 6:30pm at JCS in the main gym. This is a night that celebrates each athletic team, athletes of the year, has unveiling of championship banners and photos of the season. Please ask your student to connect with their coach for more information.
Learning Commons End of Year
All library books, novels, and textbooks are due by May 29, 2026 to the LC3. Any items not returned will be added to PowerSchool with a lost/late fee. Please have students speak with Ms. McNelly, if they have any questions or are in need of an extension.
RISE for Health & Wellness
RISE for Health & Wellness (U of C – Cumming School of Medicine)
A free summer program supporting immigrant and refugee youth (Grades 10–12) (no status restrictions) to build health knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills.
Program Details
- When: July & August (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
- Time: 2:00 – 4:30pm
- Format: In-person, with 1:1 mentorship
What Youth Will Learn
- Social Health: determinants of health, discrimination
- Mental Health: understanding mental health, reducing stigma
- Physical Health: basics of health and research
- Life Skills: communication, leadership, post-secondary pathways
Sessions are led by medical students, healthcare professionals, and community experts.
Optional Research Opportunity
Youth and families may join focus groups to share experiences and help improve programs.
Outcomes for Youth
- Increased health knowledge and research skills

- Future volunteer opportunities

Exam Schedule
A reminder that Diploma Exams in June are administered at Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School but adhere to the Alberta Education Diploma Exam calendar and policies. The exam schedule for June is posted on the JCS website.
Summer Off-Campus Opportunities
Summer Off-Campus Opportunities allows students to earn high school credits through paid or volunteer work in Calgary. Students must secure a job placement first and have HCS3000 completed. Students without a job placement can apply with CAREERS for internships (careersnextgen.ca).

High School Upgrading - Chinook Learning Services – Fall 2026 Registration
Chinook Learning Services will be offering high school upgrading opportunities for Fall 2026. Registration for Fall 2026 opens June 9 – July 31.
Students must apply online and book a required virtual appointment with an academic advisor to complete registration.
